About the conference

The University of Melbourne, in partnership with Scope, National Disability Services and The Australian Federation of Disability Organisations looks forward to welcoming you to the third biennial National Virtual Disability Conference. This fully online conference is for people with disability, family members and carers, and their representative organisations, disability service providers and their staff, researchers, policy makers and other stakeholders. The focus of the conference is on evidence and examples of good practice, and will foster discussion concerning policy and service provision designed to promote the wellbeing, inclusion and rights of people with disability. Our Virtual Disability Conference was first held in 2018, well before COVID! For us, being online is not about COVID – it's about enabling access to quality information and evidence for the widest group possible. The theme of 2022 conference is 'Raising Expectations'. It will broaden the discussion about disability to examine what has been described by Graeme Innes AM as the ‘soft bigotry of low expectations’ experienced by many people with disability. Join us in conversation about challenging the systemic barriers to greater participation for people with disability and considering the broader interests and issues for people with disability to raise expectations for a better future.
